Elementary schools are arranged in clusters. Students are assigned to a cluster based on the home address. Parents must complete an application for cluster schools, ranking their preferences. Siblings are kept together in the cluster when the parent indicates the sibling's school as a 1st choice on the application. Transportation is provided to schools within the cluster.

• Magnet schools accept applications from students throughout the district, and JCPS provides transportation for most students. The Brown School does not offer transportation.
• Magnet programs focus on a specific subject or provide a specialized learning environment. Students who are accepted into a magnet program become full-time students of the school that offers it and attend the school for all classes, not just the magnet program classes.
